Food Unchained with Akilah Stewart and more

Join us for a global conversation on the strategies of an empire hell-bent on colonizing nature’s genomes and poisoning our life force, from Pakistan to Pittsburgh.

Today’s guests include: Jaffer Abid, from Pakistan via Columbia University, a scholar on social anthropology; Akilah Stewart, of the NYC-based movement ‘Food Unchained!’ and a practitioner of healthful, holistic living for the unity and liberation of body and soul; Queens-based activist Dawit Aytenew to discuss a food crisis of monstrous proportions that has long plagued his native Ethiopia; and Gizelxanath Rodriguez of Mexico, a farmer and opera singer currently based in Pittsburgh, whose work focuses on the ‘war on the body’ being waged by corporate, commercial enterprises.

The show is hosted by musician and writer, Quincy Saul, along with baritone saxophonist Ben Barson; and engineered by Tanzanian ecosocialist Abbas Hirji.

As part of its mission to prefigure a new society in harmony with nature, EH recently co-hosted the MOSAIC Garden Convergence, a three-day event in Pittsburgh that brought together farmers, musicians, youth activists and community organizers from around the world to revive a garden in one of the city’s thousands of abandoned lots.

EHH is not meant for the faint of heart. Join us with courage, spirit, and a bit of humor that is needed to answer the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced.
